Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Bryon Gainey played in the minor and independent leagues from 1994 to 2003. He hit .233/.290/.417 with 158 home runs and 584 RBI in his 10-year career, striking out 1,336 times in 3,699 at-bats.

He was originally drafted by the New York Mets in the 3rd round of the 1994 amateur draft, two slots ahead of future major leaguer Heath Murray. He played in the Mets system from 1994 to 2000 and in indy ball from 2001 to 2003.

He died on June 10, 2006 at the age of 30.
