Biographical Information[edit]
Reliever Beau Kemp pitched in the minor leagues from 2000 to 2007. Though he spent part or all of four seasons at Triple-A, and though he finished with a career 2.81 ERA, he never reached the major leagues.
He was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 22nd round of the 1999 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Minnesota Twins in the 31st round of the 2000 amateur draft, a couple picks ahead of infielder Ruben Gotay.
He didn't post an ERA over 3 until his fourth campaign and his third was one for the ages. He started his career with a 2.45 mark, 8 saves and 38 Ks in 29 1/3 innings over 24 games between the GCL Twins and Elizabethton Twins in 2000 and in 2001, he had a 2.51 ERA and 9.6 K/9 IP ratio in 31 games for the Quad Cities River Bandits. In 2002, he went 3-2 with 29 saves, 51 games finished, a 0.66 ERA and a 0.980 WHIP in 59 games for the Fort Myers Miracle. He was a Florida State League and Minor League High-A All-Star that year, led the league in appearances and was second in games finished (behind Mike Flannery's 52) and saves (behind Lino Urdaneta's 32).
He regressed in 2003, going 6-8 with a 3.91 ERA in 58 games between Fort Myers and the New Britain Rock Cats, though he still saved 22 games. In 2003, he reached Triple-A for the first time, going 6-3 with a 3.54 ERA in 36 games for the Rochester Red Wings; he was 9-6, 3.23 in 54 games on the year as a whole, as he also played for New Britain. Back with Rochester in 2005 and 2006, he had a 3.38 ERA in 62 games the former year and a 2.32 ERA, and 7 wins, in 49 games the latter. In the 2006-07 winter ball season, he had a 2.81 ERA in 25 games for the Tigres de Aragua of the Venezuelan Winter League. He elected free agency following 2006, signed with the Toronto Blue Jays, and went 0-3 with a 5.50 ERA in 10 appearances for their Triple-A team in Syracuse to wrap up his career.
Overall, Kemp went 30-30 with 227 games finished, 78 saves and a 2.81 ERA in 347 minor league games. In 484 1/3 innings, he allowed 447 hits and 170 walks (1.274 WHIP), while striking out 359 batters. At Triple-A, he was 17-15 with a 3.17 ERA in 157 games. Including his time in the VWL, he was 33-32 with a 2.81 ERA in 372 games. He was born on Halloween.
