Biographical Information

Alan Zinter was originally drafted by the San Diego Padres in 1986 but did not sign. He was selected again, this time as a first round pick by the New York Mets in 1989, but it took him over a decade to make his MLB debut.

In 2015, Zinter became a major league coach for the first time as assistant hitting coach of the Houston Astros. In 2016, he was named hitting coach of the San Diego Padres, staying until he was fired on September 1, 2017 and was only formally replaced after the end of the season. Minor league hitting instructor Luis Ortiz took over for him in the interim.

In 2020, he was named hitting coach of the Cincinnati Reds and stayed until the end of the 2022 season. It appears Zinter was out of professional baseball in 2023 before resurfacing in 2024 as the Chicago White Sox Minor League Hitting Coordinator.
