Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder A.J. Ewing was drafted by the New York Mets in the 4th round of the 2023 amateur draft, out of a high school in Ohio.

He started his pro career with 7 games for the FCL Mets in 2023, then returned to that team at the start of 2024, before being promoted to the St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League after 19 games. In 90 games total between the two stops, his slash line was .233/.361/.390 with 10 homers and 49 RBIs. He then had a break-out season in 2025, starting off in St. Lucie and making it all the way to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies of the AA Eastern League, with a stop in the South Atlantic League with the Brooklyn Cyclones in between. In 124 games, he batted .315/.401/.429 with 3 homers and 55 RBIs, scoring 87 runs and stealing 70 bases. He was the Florida State League Player of the Month in April and led the Mets organization in stolen bases. After the season, he was rated among the top 100 prospects in baseball by all three major sources for prospect rankings - Baseball America (#83), mlb.com', (#97) and Baseball Prospectus (#38).

He started the 2026 season at Binghamton, but that lasted just 18 games as on April 27th, he was promoted to the Syracuse Mets, getting his first taste of AAA ball at just 21. He had hit .349 for the Rumble Ponies and was at .326 after 12 games for Syracuse when reports emerged on May 11th that the struggling parent Mets were calling him up to make his major league debut. In his debut the next day, he started in centerfield and batted eighth in a game against the Detroit Tigers at Citi Field. He went 1 for 2 with 3 walks, both scoring and driving in two runs and his first big league hit was a triple off Enmanuel De Jesus in the 7th that drove in a run in a 10-2 win. His other RBI came on a bases-loaded walk and he also stole a base in a great debut performance. His second career hit, which came on May 14th, was also his first career homer, a solo shot off Keider Montero of the Tigers. He was the first player in Mets history to have his first two career hits be a triple and a homer.
