High School Baseball[edit]
The 25th National High School Baseball Championship featured a total of 608 schools competing for 22 spots in the finals at Koshien. In the championship game Kaisou Central High School (Wakayama) defeated Shimonoseki High School (Yamaguchi) by a score of 5 - 0, with Seiichi Shima throwing a no-hitter.
The 16th National High School Baseball Invitational Tournament featured 20 schools competing in the tournament at Koshien. In the championship game Touhou High School (Aichi) defeated Gifu High School (Gifu) by a score of 7 - 2.
