High School Baseball[edit]
The 25th National High School Baseball Championship featured a total of 608 schools competing for 22 spots in the finals at Koshien. In the championship game Koyo High School (Wakayama) defeated Shimonoseki Commercial High School (Yamaguchi) by a score of 5 - 0, with Seiichi Shima throwing a no-hitter.
The 16th National High School Baseball Invitational Tournament featured 20 schools competing in the tournament at Koshien. In the championship game Toho High School (Aichi) defeated Gifu Commercial & Business High School (Gifu) by a score of 7 - 2.
