Sam File was the youngest player in the National League in 1940. He was also one of the oldest-living Phillies (as of October 2008). File missed the 1943-1945 seasons serving in the Coast Guard.
Other than File, 14 major leaguers have been born in Chester, PA through 2008. Johnny Podgajny was not only born in Chester, PA (a couple years earlier than File), but broke into the majors in the same year as File, also with the Phillies.
