JOHNNY PODGAJNY was 22 and married when World War II started and was classified 4F by Selective Service for vision problems. The 1942 and 1943 seasons he was with the Phillies and Pirates, but spent the remaining war seasons in the minors. 1944 was spent with Columbus and Baltimore and 1945 with Baltimore. He returned to the major leagues briefly with the Indians in 1946. He was not in the service.
