Right-hander Ed Chandler spent eleven active seasons in professional baseball from 1941 to 1955. The 24-year-old pitcher had a short season in 1941, his first year out, going 1-1 in four games for the Pocatello Cardinals of the class C Pioneer League.
Chandler served the next four years (1942-1945) in the Pacific Theater of Operations for the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
Chandler returned to baseball in 1946 and had his best season ever in the minor leagues, going 20-6 with a 2.00 ERA while appearing in 35 games for the Ft. Worth Cats, helping his team to the Texas League Championship.
Ed would make his debut in the major leagues with the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 18, 1947 and appear in 15 games with an 0-1 record and a 6.37 ERA. The Alabaman would pitch his last game in the big leagues on June 14, 1947.
Chandler was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the Rule V Draft from the St. Paul Saints in November 1950.
Chandler spent the remainder of his pro baseball career in the minor leagues where he had four more double-digit winning years, in 1948, '49, '52, and '54. He spent his last four seasons (1951-1955) in the Pacific Coast League, finishing out his minor league run in 1955 at the age of 38 with the San Francisco Seals. His final minor league numbers show a 103-86 record in 307 games.
After baseball, Edward Oliver Chandler became president of a mutual fund company until his retirement. He passed away on July 6, 2003 at the age of 86 in Las Vegas, NV,
