Biographical Information[edit]
Vitor Takahashi was a late addition to the Brazilian national team for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, the second-youngest player in the event; teammate Joseph Contreras was two months younger. He closed out their opening loss to Team USA; relieving Tomas Lopez in the 9th with a 10-5 deficit, the bases loaded and one out, he walked Cal Raleigh on four pitches to force in a run. Roman Anthony singled in a run and Pete Crow-Armstrong walked to force in another. Takahashi balked in Raleigh then got Brice Turang on a run-scoring grounder. He closed his day by retiring Bobby Witt Jr. His other game, he relieved Joao Marostica with a 14-0 deficit and one out in the bottom of the 6th against Mexico. He hit Jared Serna, got Alejandro Osuna on a fly then surrendered a Julian Ornelas homer that ended the game due to the mercy rule. He did not wind up with Brazil's highest ERA as three staffmates were higher. [1]
