Biographical Information[edit]

Joseph Contreras has pitched for the Brazilian national team as his mother Isabel is Brazilian. [1] His more famous father is former Cuban and MLB star José Contreras. [2] He was one of three sons of MLB stars to appear for Brazil in the 2026 World Baseball Classic alongside Dante Bichette Jr. and Lucas Ramírez. He was the event's youngest player, about two months younger than teammate Vitor Takahashi. He debuted in their 15-5 loss to Team USA, relieving Bo Takahashi in the 2nd with a 2-1 deficit. The high schooler got Byron Buxton on a liner than Brice Turang doubled and he walked Bobby Witt Jr. and Bryce Harper but escaped the inning when he got Aaron Judge to hit into a double play. In the 3rd, Kyle Schwarber singled, Alex Bregman grounded out and Cal Raleigh walked. Tiago Da Silva (who was pitching for Brazil before Contreras was born) came in and let one of the inherited runners score. [3]
