Biographical Information[edit]
Jared Serna has played as high as AAA.
Serna was signed by the New York Yankees in July 2019 [1] but he did not make his minor league debut for two years, in part due to the 2020 minor league season being cancelled by COVID-19. His pro debut this came with the Charros de Jalisco in the 2020-2021 Mexican Pacific League; he was 2 for 12 with a walk. In 2021, he hit .238/.404/.384 for the DSL Yankees 1 with 24 steals in 28 tries and 34 walks and 34 runs in 50 games, fielding .961 at 2B. He tied for 10th in the Dominican Summer League in swipes. In 2021-2022, he slashed .290/.353/.613 for Jalisco.
That summer, he played for the FCL Yankees (.302/.438/.527, 40 R in 37 G) and Tampa Tarpons (7 for 39, 2 2B, 3 BB in 12 G). He tied Dayro Perez for 6th in the Florida Complex League in steals (16), was 6th in average (between Agustín Ramírez and Miguel Bleis), ranked 3rd in OBP, was 4th in slugging, placed 3rd in OPS, was one run shy of the co-leaders and tied for the home run title (6). [2] He was named the FCL All-Star second baseman. [3] Back in Jalisco, he had a rough winter (5-for-31, BB, 2B).
In 2023, he played for Tampa (.283/.350/.483, 19 HR, 19 SB, 72 R in 95 G) and the Hudson Valley Renegades (.287/.350/.389 in 27 G). He was among the Yankees chain leaders in runs (1st with 90, one ahead of Jasson Domínguez), hits (144, 1st, 15 ahead of Andrés Chaparro), doubles (28, 2nd), homers (8th), RBI (79, tied Estevan Florial for 2nd, 10 behind Chaparro) and steals (29, 7th, between Elijah Dunham and Florial). He tied Danny De Andrade for 4th in the Florida State League in runs, tied for 8th in two-baggers (21), was one homer behind leader Rodolfo Nolasco, tied for 3rd in RBI (71), 5th in average (between Ricardo Olivar and Michael Curialle), third in slugging and 4th in OPS (between Olivar and Sal Stewart). [4] He was named the FSL All-Star shortstop, joining Stewart, Termarr Johnson and Torin Montgomery on the infield. [5]
The Sonora native kept it up in the winter at .310/.365/.478 for Jalisco while bouncing between 2B, SS and LF. He made the Mexican Pacific League leaderboards in runs (37, 6th, between Isaac Rodríguez and Justin Dean), hits (72, 3rd, behind Allen Córdoba and José Cardona), doubles (14, tied for 5th), steals (13, 7th, between Rodríguez and Randy Romero), average (7th), slugging (6th, between Grant Witherspoon and Kennys Vargas) and OPS (8th, between Julián Ornelas and Witherspoon). [6] He was named the Rookie of the Year. [7]
Jared began 2024 back with Hudson Valley and was doing another fine job (.253/.341/.444, 26 2B, 13 HR in 89 G) when he was shipped with Agustín Ramírez and Abraham Ramirez to the Miami Marlins for Jazz Chisholm Jr. [8] He split the remainder of the year between the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (.266/.343/.390 in 39 G) and Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (2 for 20, 2 BB, SB). After not playing in winter ball, he struggled in 2025 with Pensacola (.223/.305/.277 in 10 G) and Jacksonville (.235/.366/.294 in 10 G), fielding .962 at short between the two stops.
The winter of 2025-2026 gave him a bounceback opportunity and he hit .318/.390/.564 with 9 triples and 35 runs in 46 games, going 10-for-11 in steals, while playing error-free ball in center (.983 at SS). He easily led the LMP in triples (runners-up Mateo Gil, Drew Avans and Jasson Atondo each had 4) and he was 8th in average (between Bligh Madris and Ornelas), second in slugging (.051 behind Leo Heras) and 2nd in OPS (114 shy of Heras). [9] He then won a spot on the Mexican national team roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. [10]
