Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Drew Avans ended up pitching 1 inning for the Tulsa Drillers in 2019 and one for the Oklahoma City Dodgers in 2023. He was less than a month short of his 29th birthday by the time he finally made his major league debut with The Athletics in May of 2025. He appeared in 7 games for the team based in West Sacramento, CA, going 2 for 15, before being claimed off waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers on June 8th. He appeared in one game for Milwaukee, going 0 for 2 with a sacrifice fly that accounted for his first major league RBI.

Avans was never considered a top prospect, having had to wait until the 33rd round of the 2018 amateur draft to be drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers out of Southeastern Louisiana University. He played in the Dodgers system from 2018 to 2024, hitting every classification and missing a full season in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues. He was with the Dodgers' AAA affiliate in Oklahoma City for four straight seasons from 2021 to 2024, but was never called up to the Show during that period. He was a good contact hitter with middling power, usually hitting in the .270-.280 range with a career high of 11 homers, and three other seasons of 10 homers.

He was signed by The Athletics as a minor league free agent before the 2025 season and hit .328 in 48 games for the Las Vegas Aviators before being called up. After his one game with Milwaukee, he finished the year with the AAA Nashville Sounds, hitting .251 in 52 games.
