Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Sun pitched for the Chinese national team.
He did not pitch as a college freshman in 2021 or in 2022. He was 2-1 with a 5.32 ERA at Augustana in 2023 then 2-1 with a save and a 5.29 ERA in 2024. Sun represented China in the 2026 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, and he relieved Jeremy Wu-Yelland in the 7th inning against Germany. He struck out Shawn Larry but Simon Baumgardt drew a walk. Baumgardt then stole second, and he advanced to third due to catcher Ning Li's error. Former Major Leaguer Donald Lutz crushed a 2-run home run, and Sun walked the next two batters. He finally got the second out with a strikeout of Eric Brenk, but he then gave up a 2-run hit to Lou Helmig and Guangxuan Sun relieved him. The other Sun walked the next three batters he faced and ended that game. He tied Jaden Agassi, Josh Tribe and Xiang Wang for the most runs allowed in the qualifiers. [1]
