Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Tom McGough was on the active roster of the Cleveland Indians in 1977 but did not appear in a game, making him a phantom major leaguer. He wore #45 during his brief stay in the Big Leagues. He was drafted by the Indians in the 4th round of the 1973 amateur draft and his minor league career lasted from 1973 to 1979, all in the Indians' system. He reached AAA in 1975 with the Oklahoma City 89ers of the American Association, but then spent all of 1976 in AA. In 1977, he split his season between the AA Jersey City Indians of the Eastern League and the AAA Toledo Mud Hens in the International League. He went 2-8, 5.93 between the two stops, which may explain why the Indians were not eager to get him into a game. In 1978, he pitched well in AA for the Chattanooga Lookouts, going 8-8, 3.-02 in 21 games as a starter, but was 0-3, 4.63 in 7 games for the AAA Portland Beavers.

His son Scott McGough did play in the majors however.
