June 30: Today's featured birthday is that of Doug Dascenzo, who turns 62.
- 1930 - The New York Lincoln Giants top the Baltimore Black Sox, 13-4, in the first Negro League game at Yankee Stadium. Rap Dixon hits three home runs and Chino Smith goes deep twice and adds a triple as well.
- 1934 - Lou Gehrig hits his 17th career grand slam, an inside-the-park shot. He breaks Babe Ruth's record for grand slams and will extend it over the next several years.
- 1947 - Larry Doby (pictured) becomes the first African-American player in the American League when he pinch-hits for the Indians. He strikes out but will go on to an excellent career.
- 1993 - Rickey Henderson leads off both ends of a doubleheader with a home run. The last time this had happened was 80 years earlier, when Harry Hooper did so.
- 1998 - Juan Gonzalez reaches 100 RBI before the All-Star break. He is the second player to have done so, following Hank Greenberg by 63 years.
