Biographical Information

Takayuki Shirai was drafted by the Hankyu Braves in the first round of the 1984 NPB draft, and he went 1-3 with a 5.21 ERA in 1986. He had a 6.05 ERA in 6 games in 1987, and he only pitched one more game in 1988 before the Braves traded him with Kenji Harada and Tsuyoshi Uchida to the Daiei Hawks for Hiromitsu Kadota. Shirai stayed in the minors in 1989, and he was traded with Hiromichi Nakamura to the Chunichi Dragons for Koichi Emoto and Hidetsugu Nishimura. Shirai never pitched for Chunichi's top team, and he announced his retirement in 1990. His brother Yasukatsu Shirai also played in NPB.
