Biographical Information[edit]

T.R. Lewis spent 11 seasons in professional baseball, beginning in 1989. Though he spent part or all of 5 seasons at Triple-A, he never ascended to the majors. He was once a well-regarded prospect: In 1991, Baseball America named him the #8 prospect in the Baltimore Orioles chain, between Luis Mercedes and Jeff Williams. In 1993, he was ranked the #10 prospect, after Mercedes.

He was taken by the Orioles in the 4th round of the 1989 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of pitcher Joey Eischen and also ahead of future Hall of Famer Jeff Bagwell. He was signed by scout Jim Pamlayne.

He began his career with a.331/.364/.616 line with 10 home runs and 32 RBI in 40 games for the Bluefield Orioles in 1989. A few years later, in 1992, he had another standout campaign, hitting .304/.373/.474 with 9 home runs, 76 RBI and 37 doubles in 129 games between the Kane County Cougars and Frederick Keys. In 1993, he hit .304/.352/.398 with 5 homers, 64 RBI and 22 steals in 127 games for the Bowie Baysox; his 146 hits were second in the Eastern League, behind Omar Ramirez's 162. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 1994, hitting .305/.369/.466 in 55 games for the Rochester Red Wings. 1996 was another high-average season. Now in the Boston Red Sox chain, he hit .314/.391/.558 with 14 homers and 52 RBI in 79 games for the Pawtucket Red Sox. After a couple more years in the affiliated ranks, he wrapped up his career with the independent Aberdeen Arsenal in 2000, hitting .369/.421/.525 in 30 games.

Overall, Lewis hit .296/.363/.448 with 79 home runs and 494 RBI in 946 games. At Triple-A, he hit .293/.365/.471 with 35 homers and 187 RBI in 326 games. He spent significant time in the outfield, at first base and at third base.

He later became a scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Miami Marlins, signing Mike Bolsinger. He has also been a player agent, representing Jonathan Johnson and Gregg Zaun.
