Biographical Information[edit]
T.J. Nall pitched professionally from 1999 to 2008. Though he spent one whole season and part of two others at Triple-A, he never ascended to the major leagues.
He was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 8th round of the 1999 amateur draft, then had a few seasons of note. In 2002, he was 5-2 with a 2.26 ERA in 38 games (2 starts) between the South Georgia Waves and Vero Beach Dodgers. In 2005, he reached Triple-A for the first time, spending the whole year at that level. He was 6-7 with a 7.17 ERA in 29 games (15 starts) for the Las Vegas 51s. In 2006, he was 10-7 with a 2.94 ERA in 31 games (19 starts) between the Jacksonville Suns and 51s. He was a Southern League Mid-Season All-Star that year. His 2007 campaign was notable for negative reasons, as he went 4-16 with a 6.13 ERA in 29 games (27 starts) split between four teams in the Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals systems. He wrapped up his career with a single game in independent ball in 2008.
In 1999, he tied Kevin McClain for the Pioneer League lead in home runs allowed with 13. He led the league in BB/9 IP ratio with a mark of 1.3. He tied Rob Hamann for second in the league in losses with 8, behind Julian Harris' 9. He tied Scott Martin, Chris Olean and Jeff Robinson for second in the league with 2 complete games, behind Jose Mieses' 3. His 115 hits allowed tied Martin for second in the loop, behind Harris' 132. In 2003, he tied eight other pitchers for the Florida State League lead in complete games with 2. In 2006, he was second in the Southern League in WHIP with a mark of 1.038, behind Andy Sonnanstine's 0.996. He led the league with 155 strikeouts and K/9 IP ratio (9.9).
Overall, Nall went 45-59 with a 4.55 ERA in 218 games (123 starts). In 883 1/3 innings, he allowed 970 hits and 252 walks (1.383 WHIP), while striking out 733 batters.
He served as pitching coach for Oakton Community College from 2009 to 2013, assistant coach at Addison Trail High School in 2014 and pitching coach for the Schaumburg Boomers from 2013 to 2015. He was also head coach at George Washington High School in 2014 and 2015. From 2016 to 2025, he was head coach at West Chicago High School.
