Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Scott Krause played professionally from 1994 to 2006. Though he spent part or all of five seasons at Triple-A, could hit for power, steal bases and post high averages, he never ascended to the majors.

He was originally taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 58th round of the 1991 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 10th round of the 1994 amateur draft, one pick after infielder Greg LaRocca. Right off the bat, he posted good numbers. In 1994, he hit .357/.416/.500 with 4 home runs, 52 RBI and 13 steals in 63 games for the Helena Brewers, earning Pioneer League All-Star honors. In 1995, he slipped to .247/.329/.407, but still contributed 13 homers, 76 RBI and 24 steals for the Beloit Snappers. His 126 strikeouts were second in the Midwest League, behind Don Denbow's 143. In 1996, he hit .303/.364/.508 with 22 home runs, 94 RBI, 27 steals and 98 run scored in 132 games between the Stockton Ports and El Paso Diablos, with his 16 hit by pitches with Stockton tying Jason Cook for the California League lead.

In 1997, he earned Texas League All-Star honors after hitting .361/.390/.578 with 16 home runs, 88 RBI, 13 steals, 11 triples and 97 runs scored in 125 games for El Paso. He was second in the league in batting average, behind Mike Kinkade's .385. He moved to Triple-A for 1998, hitting .292/.387/.567 with 26 home runs, 82 RBI and 11 steals in 117 games for the Louisville Redbirds, tying Brian Daubach for the International League lead in hit by pitches with 15. He was the starting left fielder in that year's All-Star Game. Back with Louisville in 1999, he hit .277/.333/.447 with 15 home runs and 89 RBI in 133 games. He split 2000 between the Huntsville Stars and Louisville, batting .275/.331/.441 in 78 games.

Joining the Cleveland Indians chain for 2000, he hit .254/.317/.462 with no steals, but still managed 15 home runs and 52 RBI in 87 games for the Akron Aeros. He moved to the Seattle Mariners chain in 2001, hitting .221/.288/.357 in 47 games between the San Antonio Missions and Tacoma Rainiers. In 2002, he pivoted to independent ball, hitting .407/.475/.796 with 5 home runs and 14 RBI in 13 games for the Northern League's Sioux Falls Canaries. In 2003, he returned to the affiliated ranks, hitting .299/.377/.469 in 76 games split between the Tennessee Smokies and Memphis Redbirds in the St. Louis Cardinals chain. After not playing in 2004 and 2005, he returned with the independent San Angelo Colts of the United League, hitting .303/.350/.548 in 44 games in 2006.

Overall, Krause hit .295/.357/.492 with 139 home runs, 662 RBI and 107 steals in 1,049 games over 11 seasons. In the affiliated minors, he hit .292/.356/.484 with 127 homers and 607 RBI in 992 games and at Triple-A, he hit .282/.354/.488 with 50 home runs and 211 RBI in 339 games. In indy ball, he hit .326/.378/.603 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI in 57 games.
