Ryan Carpenter pitched 15 games for the Detroit Tigers in 2018 and 2019. 14 of the games were as a starter, and he went a combined 2-8, 8.57, logging 63 innings.
He was drafted twice, both times by the Tampa Bay Rays, first in the 21st round in 2008 coming out of high school, and again in the 7th round in the 2011 amateur draft, out of Gonzaga University. He was released by the Rays in spring training in 2014, then pitched in the Colorado Rockies system until 2017 and signed with Detroit in November of 2017. Following his time with the Tigers, he signed with the San Diego Padres after the 2023 season.
In between his time with the Tigers and the Padres, he pitched one season in the Chinese Professional Baseball League with the Rakuten Monkeys in 2020, and two seasons in the Korea Baseball Organization with the Hanwha Eagles in 2021 and 2022. he had some success in Taiwan, going 10-7, 4.00 in 25 games for Rakuten, but struggled in Korea, with a 5-12 record in 2022. In all, his pro career lasted from 2011 to 2024.
