Biographical Information[edit]
Robert DeMeo played in the minor leagues and for the USA national baseball team.
DeMeo represented the USA in the 1973 Intercontinental Cup; the US won Bronze. He was the first player in UNC history to earn first team All-American honors in 1972, and he was a two-time All-Amercian second team members.[1] He made the school's Hall of Fame later on. [2] The Philadelphia Phillies signed him as a undrafted free agent in 1974, and he hit .248/.286/.274 in 35 games for the Eugene Emeralds. He then played 78 games with a .185/.273/.210 batting line in 1975 for the Spartanburg Phillies, and he recorded a .200/.272/.240 batting line there in 1976. He also hit .182/.262/.200 in 24 games for the Peninsula Pilots, and his batting line was .199/.246/.278 in 87 games for the Reading Phillies in 1977. DeMeo went 10-for-50 in 1978 for the AAA Oklahoma City 89ers, and he only got 3 more at-bats before he announced his retirement in 1980. He was a coach for the 89ers in 1981, but he passed away due to car crashes in December. [3]
