Biographical Information[edit]

Patsy McGaffigan played in the majors in 1917-18 with the Philadelphia Phillies. He played shortstop in 1917, serving as a back-up to Dave Bancroft, and then was the team's most-used second baseman in 1918.

McGaffigan was born, and died, in Carlyle, IL, 50 miles east of St. Louis, MO. Carlyle is the birthplace also of Mel Simons and Pat Jarvis.

In the minors, he was a shortstop before he came to the majors and a second baseman afterwards.

After his major league days he found a home for several years with the Sacramento Senators. Dazzy Vance was a teammate in 1919.

Through 2008, the only other major leaguer with the same last name has been Andy McGaffigan.
