Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Noah Schultz was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 1st round of the 2022 amateur draft with the 26th overall pick. He came out of their own backyard, having attended a high school in nearby Oswego, IL and as a 6'10" lefthander, he couldn't help escape comparisons to Randy Johnson. He signed for a bonus of $2.8 million.
After working out at the White Sox's spring training complex in Arizona for the rest of the 2022 season, he was assigned to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers of the Carolina League at the start of 2023. He started 10 games for them, going 1-2, 1.33, with 38 strikeouts and just 18 hits allowed in 27 innings, but also spent long periods on the development list and on the injured list that season. In 2024, he started off with the Winston-Salem Dash of the South Atlantic League, pitching 27 innings in 7 starts, then was promoted to the Birmingham Barons of the AA Southern League at the end of May. He made another 16 starts there, but was again kept on a short leash, totaling just 61 innings. Between the two teams, he was 0-4 in spite of an ERA of 2.24 - a result of not being allowed to pitch deep into games. His peripheral numbers were all strong, with just 63 hits allowed and 24 walks in 88 1/3 innings, and 115 strikeouts. He was named to play in the 2024 Futures Game and was named a AA All-Star after the season as well as the Southern League Pitcher of the Year and a league post-season All-Star.
He started the 2025 season with Birmingham, going 4-3, 3.34 in his first 12 starts. That earned him a first look at AAA with the Charlotte Knights as well as a trip to the 2025 Futures Game. He made just 5 starts for Charlotte, going 0-2, 9.37 then went on the injured list for the rest of the season. However, he started 2026 very strong for the Knights, with 3 wins and an ERA of 1.29 in his first three games to earn a quick call-up to Chicago. He made his debut on April 14th as the starting pitcher against the Tampa Bay Rays. He gave up 4 runs in 4 1/3 innings, with his own throwing error contributing to two of these, and was charged with an 8-5 loss.
