Biographical Information[edit]

Michael Peoples played in the minor leagues and in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Peoples was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 14th round of the 2012 Amateur Draft, and he had a 2.28 ERA in 16 appearances for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in his first season. He was 1-2 with a 2.64 ERA for the Lake County Captains in 2013, but his ERA was 5.27 in 8 starts with the Carolina Mudcats. Peoples then went 7-8 with a 4.34 ERA for the Mudcats in 2014, and he had a 11-4 record with a 3.42 ERA for the Lynchburg Hillcats in 2015. He was one win behind Carolina League leader Matt Heidenreich and was 5th in the Indians chain, between Ryan Merritt and Shawn Morimando. He was 12-6 with a 3.68 ERA in 2016 for the Akron RubberDucks, and he also pitched one game for the AAA Columbus Clippers, which he won. He tied Julian Merryweather for second in the Indians farm system in wins, behind Morimando's 15. He tied Tyler Mapes for the most wins in the Eastern League. He was also 9th in ERA, between Daniel Camarena and Ronald Herrera.

In 2017, Peoples suffered from injuries, so he was 2-5 with a 5.58 ERA in Akron and 1-4 with a 7.15 ERA for the Clippers. He struggled again in 2018 as he allowed 23 runs in 12 innings in Columbus, and he had a solid 1.11 ERA in 6 starts for the RubberDucks. Peoples bounced back in 2019 as a regular starter for the Clippers, and he was 10-6 with a 3.98 ERA. He walked only 29 in 144 2/3 IP. He was one win behind International League pacesetter Kyle Wright and 5th with 122 K, between Mitch Keller and Lewis Thorpe. Among Cleveland minor leaguers, he was one win shy of leader Jake Paulson and 5th in strikeouts.

The Yokohama BayStars then signed him, and he was 2-2 with a 4.97 ERA in 2020. He was 3-4 with a 4.21 ERA in 2021, but he suffered from a waist injury in 2022, so he only pitched 3 games with a 15.00 ERA and he announced his retirement. Peoples later became the pitching coach for the Arkansas Travelers from 2023 to 2024.

Overall, Peoples was 48-44 with a 4.16 ERA, struck out 577 and pitched 779 2/3 innings in 8 seasons in the minor leagues.
