Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Micah Ashman was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 11th round of the 2024 amateur draft, out of the University of Utah where he set the school record with 20 saves over three seasons. At 6' 7", 195 lb., he fits the definition of "rail-thin".
He began his professional career in 2024 with the Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Florida State League, going 1-0, 4.26 in 5 games. In 2025, he started the season with the West Michigan Whitecaps of the High-A Midwest League, going 4-03, 1.60 in 28 games with 4 saves. That earned him a promotion to the AA Erie SeaWolves on July 22nd, but only a week later, on July 31st, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles in return for major league veteran Charlie Morton. He had only pitched 3 scoreless innings for Erie and then finished the season with the Chesapeake Baysox, going 0-1, 4.80 in 13 games and recording another 2 saves.
He was named to Team Canada's roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Both of his parents were athletes, with his father, John Ashman, playing offensive tackle for Brigham Young University in the early 1990s and his mother Marinda having played volleyball in college, also at BYU. His connection with Canada comes from his mother, who grew up north of the border and holds Canadian citizenship.
