Biographical Information[edit]

Masahiro Nakane played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years

Nakane was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the first round of the 1972 NPB draft, and he went 1-3 with a 4.74 ERA in his first season. He set the Pacific League record by recording three balks in a game on May 6 against the Lotte Orions. Nakane only pitched 5 games combined for the big club in the next 5 seasons, then he was turned into an outfielder in 1979. He crushed 9 homers with a .336 batting average in the Western League in 1980, then he went 2-for-4 for the top team in 1982. Nakane was 10-for-46 in 1983, and he got the starting right fielder spot in 1984. He crushed a career-high 14 homers, and his batting line was .267/.345/.444 in 106 games. Nakane then hit .274/.352/.514 in 1984, but he slumped to .201/.247/.443 in 1985. He also blasted the 50,000th home run in NPB history on April 23, 1985. Nakane went 8-for-34 in 1986, and he was traded to the Chunichi Dragons for Akira Onoue and Yoshiaki Shimada. He was 0-for-15 in 1988, and he announced his retirement. He later ran a restaurant and worked as a broadcaster.

Overall, Nakane hit .247/.319/.429 with 189 hits and 36 homers in 11 seasons in NPB. He was 2-8 with a 4.34 ERA as a pitcher.
