Biographical Information[edit]

Akira Onoue played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years

Onoue hit .266 with 14 homers and a Best Nine award in the Tohto University Base Ball League, and he was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the first round of the 1981 NPB draft. He hit .215/.292/.323 in 50 games in 1982, and he had a .224/.288/.373 batting line in 1983. Onoue slumped to .186/.229/.256 in 1984, and he struggled again in 1985 as his batting line was .200/.263/.257. He hit .177/.231/.219 in 70 games in 1986 (while he played 70 games, he was not a true regular, getting 110 plate appearances, backing up Masaru Uno at 3B, Yasutomo Suzuki at SS and Seiji Kamikawa at 2B), and he went 1-for-9 in 1987. The Dragons then traded him with Yoshiaki Shimada to the Kintetsu Buffaloes for Masahiro Nakane, but he only played 29 games combined for their top team before he announced his retirement in 1991.

Overall, Onoue hit .204/.272/.281 with 77 hits and 5 homers in 9 seasons in NPB. He had 427 plate appearances spread out over 362 games.
