Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Mark Strittmatter spent a nine-year career in the minor leagues, with only a cup of coffee in the majors in September 1998. He was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 1992 amateur draft and ended his playing career in 2000 with a .246 career batting average.

From 2003 to 2010, he was the Rockies' bullpen catcher. In 2011, he moved to the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he rejoined new Pirates manager Clint Hurdle who had been his boss with the Rockies. As a major league coach, Strittmatter had assorted responsibilities. He served as the pitcher's hitting coach and also assisted the catchers and the hitting program. Strittmatter kept the same role in 2012 before returning to the Rockies in 2013 as their Minor League Catching Coordinator. He took on additional responsibilities in 2022 as the organization's Minor League Field Coordinator. Strittmatter continued in the latter role in 2023.

The Chicago Cubs hired Strittmatter in 2024 as their Major League Field Coordinator under new manager Craig Counsell. Strittmatter and Counsell both began their professional playing careers with the 1992 Bend Rockies. In 2025, Strittmatter worked as the bullpen coach for the Cubs.
