Biographical Information

Catcher Luis Dorante played in the minors from 1987 to 1993 before becoming a minor league coach and manager.

Dorante was a player/coach with the Fort Lauderdale Red Sox in 1993 and a scout in Venezuela for the Montreal Expos (1994) before managing for many years. Dorante's managerial record is outlined below. He also held a number of coaching positions through the years in both the major and minor leagues starting in 1996 when he coached hitters for the GCL Expos. Dorante served as the Florida Marlins bullpen coach in 2005. In 2008, he was named bullpen coach of the Pittsburgh Pirates. After spending 2009 and 2010 on the Pirates staff, he became the Pirates' Latin American Field Coordinator in 2011. In 2012, Dorante moved to the New York Yankees' organization as a coach for the Trenton Thunder. He also held that position in 2013 and 2018. Back in the Marlins organization, Dorante was a defensive coach for the Jupiter Hammerheads in 2025.

In addition to his work with MLB organizations, Dorante has an extensive managing and coaching resume in the winter leagues. He mostly worked with Venezuelan League teams. The list of coaching roles below were all in the VL unless noted otherwise.
