Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Keagan Gillies was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 15th round of the 2021 amateur draft out of Tulane University. He had spent five years at Tulane, benefitting from an extra year of eligibility after his senior season was stopped after just 8 appearances and 7 2/3 innings by the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost exclusively a reliever in college, his results were not impressive until his additional season, when he put up an ERA of 0.96 in 19 games totaling 28 innings while recording 5 saves. By then he was a graduate student.

He only pitched once after signing with the Orioles in 2021, with one inning for the FCL Orioles Black. In 2022, he pitched 9 times between the FCL Orioles and the Delmarva Shorebirds of the Carolina League, going 1-2, 4.87, ads the Orioles began to turn him in to a starting pitcher. In 2023 though, he was back in the bullpen full-time for the Aberdeen IronBirds of the South Atlantic League and Bowie BaySox of the Eastern League. In 40 2/3 innings, his ERA was 2.43 with just 19 hits allowed and 14 walks, while striking out 61. He was named an organizational All-Star after the season. In 2024, he spent a full season at Bowie, going 1-3, 4.94 with 7 saves.

In 2025, Baltimore's AA affiliate in Bowie was renamed the Chesapeake Baysox and Keagan had a dominant first couple of months for them, going 4-1, 1.15 in 26 games, with 8 saves. That earned him a trip to the 2025 Futures Game as well as a promotion to AAA for the first time. With the Norfolk Tides, he went 0-1, 4.84 in 16 games, and between the two stops collected 51 strikeouts in 53 2/3 innings.
