Biographical Information

Kai Correa was appointed as bench coach of the San Francisco Giants by new manager Gabe Kapler for the 2020 season. It was an unusual appointment as it was the first time Correa had held a coaching position on a major league team, and at 31 he was the youngest bench coach in the majors. He had never played professionally, having served as an assistant coach at the University of Puget Sound (2012-2014) and later at the University of Northern Colorado (2015-2017). Before being hired by the Giants, he had worked for two years in the Cleveland Indians player development system. Correa was a bench coach for the AZL Indians Red in 2018 and the Minor League Short-Season Defensive Coordinator for Cleveland in 2019.

On September 29, 2023, he was named interim manager of the Giants for the season's final three games after Kapler was fired, then was let go in turn at the end of the season. In 2024, he joined the Cleveland Guardians as their Major League Field Coordinator. Correa continued as the Field Coordinator in 2025 while also holding the title of Director of Defense, Baserunning, and Game Strategy. In 2026, he was appointed bench coach of the New York Mets.

His grandfather Jimmy Correa was a semi-professional player in Hawaii, and his father Tom Correa was a bird-dog scout for various teams.
