Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Josh Rivera was drafted twice, first in 22nd round of the 2019 amateur draft out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL by the San Diego Padres, and again in the 3rd round of the 2023 amateur draft by the Chicago Cubs out of the University of Florida. In his final season with the Gators, he batted .348 with 19 homers and 72 RBIs in 70 games. He played in the 2023 College World Series where Florida lost in the finale and made the all-tournament team at shortstop.

He began his pro career in 2023, playing first with the ACL Cubs and later with the South Bend Cubs of the Midwest League, batting .262/.325/.447 in 28 games. In 2024, he started off with the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League,until a July 31st trade to the Toronto Blue Jays. In that deal, he and teammate Yohendrick Piñango were sent to the Blue Jays in return for P Nate Pearson. He finished the season with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats of the Eastern League. In 102 games between the two stops, he batted .169/.261/.240, in marked contrast with his previous success. defensively, however, he put up some good numbers at shortstop. He bounced back to some extent in 2025 as he batted .219/.320/.322 in 123 games between New Hampshire and the AAA Buffalo Bisons. He started 2026 back at Buffalo.
