Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Plesac played for the USA national baseball team and in the minor leagues. His brother Dan Plesac, was a Major League pitcher for 18 years. His nephews include Zach Plesac and Frank Plesac and brothers Blaze Alexander and C.J. Alexander.
Plesac represented the USA in the 1980 Amateur World Series. [1] The San Diego Padres picked him in the 2nd round of the 1982 Amateur Draft, the 31st overall pick, between David Wells and Allan Anderson. He was 1-3 with a 4.38 ERA for the Walla Walla Padres in his first season. He also pitched 5 games with a 6.91 ERA for the Amarillo Gold Sox that season, and he recorded a 9.31 ERA with a 2-5 record in 40 games for the Reno Padres in 1983. Plesac went 1-1 with a 3.89 ERA for the Miami Marlins in 1984, and his ERA was 6.52 in 19 games for the Charleston Rainbows in 1985. He struggled again as he had a 5-12 record with a 6.00 ERA for the Rainbows in 1986, and he tied Dane Johnson for 3rd in losses in the South Atlantic League. Plesac went 7-4 with a 5.48 ERA in Reno in 1987, and he announced his retirement.
