Biographical Information[edit]

Joe Ayrault was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 5th round of the 1990 amateur draft out of Sarasota High School in Florida. Joe spent his entire playing career in the Atlanta organization from 1990 to 1997. He made his only big league appearances in 1996, when he played in seven games for the Braves and made the postseason roster as the third-string catcher.

After his playing days, Ayrault served as a coach with the GCL Rangers in 2001, bench coach for the Savannah Sand Gnats in 2002, and hitting coach for the Stockton Ports in 2003. Ayrault joined the Cincinnati Reds organization in 2004 and served as the hitting coach for the GCL Reds in 2004-2005, and Sarasota Reds in 2006. In 2007 he earned his first managerial assignment with Sarasota where he stayed three seasons. Since 2010, he has managed in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Ayrault was scheduled to be manager for the 2020 Carolina Mudcats before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

In 2024, Ayrault surpassed 1,000 wins for his minor league managerial career, an impressive total at any level of baseball. However, he had to leave his position as manager of the Biloxi Shuckers in early June as he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Ayrault underwent a course of aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatment at his home in Sarasota, FL as surgery was not an option. The treatment was successful, and in January 2025, Ayrault was cleared to return to managing at Biloxi.
