Biographical Information[edit]
Jason Mackintosh pitched professionally from 2001 to 2011. Though he briefly reached Triple-A (48 innings), he never ascended to the majors.
He was taken by the Chicago Cubs in the 36th round of the 1999 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He eventually signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Indians. He spent a year in the Indians system, 2001, then missed 2002 and 2003. By 2004, he was in the Seattle Mariners organization, finishing second in the Midwest League in home runs allowed with 18, behind Carlos Villanueva's 20, that year. By 2005, he had his first double-digit win season, going 10-11 with a 4.26 ERA in 29 games (28 starts) for the Inland Empire 66ers. He was a California League Mid-Season All-Star and he also led the league in innings pitched (179 2/3) and hits allowed (206). He tied Jonathan Castellanos and Garrett Mock for second in starts, behind Ryan Feierabend's 29 and was one of just a handful of pitchers to toss a complete game.
In 2006, he shifted mostly to the bullpen (earning a spot on the Texas League Mid-Season All-Star team by posting a 3.38 ERA in 36 games), then spent most of 2007 to 2009 in a relief role. In 2007, he reached Triple-A for the only time in his career, posting a 4.69 ERA in 28 games (1 start) for the Tacoma Rainiers. In 2008, he had a 2.83 ERA in 43 appearances between the Mariners and Philadelphia Phillies systems. He remained in the Phillies system through 2009. In 2010 and 2011, he played in independent ball, both relieving and starting. He played for the Northern League's Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Golden Baseball League's Maui Na Koa Ikaika in 2010 and the North American League's Chico Outlaws in 2011. With Maui, he was one of just seven league pitchers to toss a shutout.
Overall, he went 37-41 with a 4.25 ERA in 236 games (85 starts). In 732 2/3 innings, he allowed 781 hits and 211 walks (1.354 WHIP), while striking out 546 batters.
