Pitcher Jack Anderson reached the major leagues in 2026.
Anderson was 5-2 with a 1.26 ERA as a high school senior. [1] The [{New York Yankees]] took him in the 36th round of the 2018 amateur draft, two picks after Brandon Williamson. He did not sign and continued on to Florida State University, where he struggled as a freshman (0-1, 7.04) though he fanned 10 in 7 2/3 IP. In the COVID-19-shortened 2020, he was an excellent 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA. He was 2-0 with 5 saves and a 2.48 ERA in 2021, then the Detroit Tigers chose him in the 18th round of the 2021 amateur draft and signed him for a $125,000 bonus. The scout was RJ Burgess. [2]
In the summer of 2021, he had a save and a 7.50 ERA for the FCL Tigers East. He split 2022 between the Lakeland Flying Tigers (3-3, 2 Sv, 3.72 in 21 G) and West Michigan Whitecaps (0-1, 4 Sv, 3.00 in 18 G), striking out 72 and walking 14 in 59 2/3 IP. He tied for 10th in the Tigers system in saves. He had a 1-0, 4.50 record with one save for the Salt River Rafters in the Arizona Fall League. With the Whitecaps for all of 2023, he was 1-1 with two saves and a 4.80 ERA. He split 2024 between West Michigan (3-1, Sv, 2.92 in 27 G) and the Toledo Mud Hens (2-0, 5.82 in 8 G). The Boston Red Sox took him in the AAA portion of the 2024 Rule V Draft. [3]
The Floridian hurler split 2025 between the Portland Sea Dogs (2-5, 3 Sv, 3.58 in 23 G) and Worcester Red Sox (0-3, 11.12 in 3 G). Among Red Sox farmhands, only José De León had more losses. He then made the Great Britain national team roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. [4] He started against Mexico on March 6th, going 3 innings and allowing just 1 run. He started the 2026 season with Worcester but was called up to Boston after just two starts, making his major league debut on April 14th in relief of Sonny Gray against the Minnesota Twins. He gave up one run in three innings, on a solo homer by Byron Buxton which was the only hit he allowed while striking out 4 in a 6-0 loss.
