Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Isaac Collins was the first player since Hall of Famer Joe Mauer (in 2001) to be named a finalist for the Mr. Minnesota Award in both baseball and football, doing so in 2016. However, when he went to Creighton University, he concentrated solely on baseball. He was mainly a second baseman in college and batted .293 in 54 games before being drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 9th round of the 2019 amateur draft.
He was moved to the outfield by the Rockies, although he had played there previously in summer collegiate ball in the Cape Cod League. He played in the Rockies' system until 2022, when he hit .221 in 111 games for the Hartford Yard Goats of the AA Eastern League. He was claimed by the Milwaukee Brewers in the minor league portion of the 2022 Rule V Draft on December 7th that year and spent the bulk of the 2023 season with the Biloxi Shuckers of the AA Southern League, hitting .269 in 93 games. He was briefly promoted to the AAA Nashville Sounds, going hitless in 3 games, but in 2024 had a good season there, hitting .273/.386/.475 in 113 games. He was called up to Milwaukee on September 8th, replacing the aptly named Brewer Hicklen on the roster, and got a hit in his major league debut that day, a 4-1 loss to his former team, the Colorado Rockies. He started in left field and went 1 for 2 before being replaced by pinch-hitter Sal Frelick in the 8th inning. Overall, he went 2 for 17 in 11 games for Milwaukee in that first cup of coffee.
In July 2025, he succeeded teammate Jacob Misiorowski as the National League Rookie of the Month, when he hit .321 with an OBP of .411 for a Brewers team that finished the month with the best record in the National League. He received a lot more playing time than expected in the outfield that season, as a result of injuries, and ended up at .263 in 130 games, with 9 homers and 56 RBIs, for an OPS+ of 118. He was named to the 2025 MLB All-Rookie Team and finished fourth in the voting for the 2025 National League Rookie of the Year Award, but he saw little action in the postseason, going 0 for 9 over two series. This was a sign that however good his rookie season had been, he did not figure in the team's longer-term plans. This was confirmed on December 13th when he had pitcher Nick Mears were traded to the Kansas City Royals in return for reliever Angel Zerpa.
