Biographical Information[edit]

Gabriel Rincones Jr. played on the Great Britain national team before reaching the majors.

Rincones was born in Florida then moved to Venezuela to be closer to family. He picked up baseball there. His father, former professional player Gabriel Rincones, got a job in the offshore oil industry when Gabriel Jr. was six years old and they moved to Scotland, where he got teased for playing baseball rather than cricket. [1] Right before starting high school, he moved to Tampa, where he attended a school that had produced many major leaguers such as Wade Boggs, having to adjust to yet another culture. [2] While a good hitter back in Scotland, he did not have the skills to compete at that level yet and was cut. [3] He kept on working on his abilities to compete at the US level.

It certainly paid off, as he hit .432/.491/.695 with 28 RBI in 24 games in 2021. [4] The San Diego Padres took him in the 19th round of the 2021 amateur draft, but he did not sign. He played for the Great Britain squad in the 2021 European Championship. Batting second and playing DH in their opener, he struck out his first at-bat, versus France's Owen Ozanich. He walked the next time and came around to score. He had 3 of their 4 hits versus Israel and 3 hits versus the champion Dutch national team. In the 9th inning against Belgium, with the game 11-11, he ground into a force to drive in Zachary Stroman with the winner. He finished at .259/.300/.370 with six runs and four RBI in six games. He tied Aaron Singh for the team lead in runs and was second on the team with three doubles, two behind Singh. He tied for 8th in the Euros in doubles. [5]

In 2022, he spent a year at Florida Atlantic University, where he hit .346 with 19 homers and 69 RBIs in 58 games. That got him drafted him again, this time by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 3rd round of the 2022 amateur draft. He signed quickly this time, the signing scout being Victor Gomez, and he started his pro career the next season, playing 120 games between the Clearwater Threshers and Jersey Shore BlueClaws. He hit .248 with 15 homers and 60 RBIs. In 2024, he played 59 games with the AA Reading Fightin Phils and another 9 on rehabilitation assignment with the FCL Phillies. In spite of time missed with a thumb sprain, he was named an Eastern League All-Star for hitting .263 with 11 homers and 29 RBIs. In 2025, he played 119 games in AAA for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, batting .249 with 18 homers and 73 RBIs.

He was injured early in 2026, missing all of April and then playing 10 rehabilitation games in the lower minors before returning to Lehigh Valley on May 26th. Barely two weeks later, after he hit.239 in 12 games, he was called up to Philly when OF Adolis Garcia went on the injured list with a sprained muscle in his back. He had the unfortunate assignment of making his major league debut on June 12th as the starting rightfielder against one of the best pitchers in the majors, Jacob Misiorowski of the Milwaukee Brewers. The entire Phillies line-up was overmatched in that game, as they were the victims of a one-hit shutout in which Misiorowski faced the minimum 27 batters and struck out 15. Gabriel went 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts. His first hit was also his first major league home run, and it came on June 15th against Ryan Gusto in the 2nd inning of a 7-0 win over the Miami Marlins.
