Biographical Information

Growing up in Charlotte, NC, pitcher Ryan Gusto was passed up for a spot on the varsity team at Providence High School, but not willing to give up on baseball, instead joined the "Carolina Royals", a team normally reserved for home-schooled students in the area. He did well enough that he was able to pursue his career in junior college, first at Broward College and later at Florida SouthWestern State College, from where he was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 11th round of the 2019 amateur draft. The move from one college to the other was done to follow his coach, Ben Bizier and he became the highest draft pick in school history after being named Suncoast Conference Pitcher of the Year.
