Biographical Information[edit]
Frank Jaciuk played in the minor leagues and in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Jaciuk began his professional career with the Detroit Tigers organization in 1958, and he hit .278/.333/.352 with 113 games for the Erie Sailors in his first season, fielding .868 at third base. He crushed 10 homers with a .302/.371/.435 batting line for the Decatur Commodores in 1959, improving his fielding to .909. He tied Nelson Mathews and Robert Davison for 7th in the Midwest League with 7 triples. He was 8th in the MWL in average [1] and he had the top fielding percentage among third basemen with 100+ games. [2] He recorded a .290/.357/.404 batting line with the Knoxville Smokies in 1960. In the South Atlantic League, he tied Charlie Leonard for 8th in runs (82), tied Dick McAuliffe for 5th in doubles (27) and led third basemen in both assists (228) and errors (35). [3] His 11 sacrifice hits tied Don Wert for the most in the Tigers system.
He played 61 games with a .227/.289/.328 batting line for the Birmingham Barons in 1961, and he also hit .281/.368/.391 with the Smokies. He slumped to .198/.273/.247 for the Elmira Pioneers in 1962, and he also went 17-for-73 with the AAA Syracuse Chiefs. The Hanshin Tigers signed him in 1963, but he struggled as his batting line was .191/.255/.276, splitting third base with Shigeharu Asai, and he announced his retirement. [4]
Overall, Jaciuk hit .268/.337/.368 with 603 hits and 34 homers in 5 seasons in the minor leagues.
