Biographical Information[edit]
Edgar Huerta pitched in the minors and for the Mexican national team.
His father was a semipro baseball player. [1] He allowed a walk and a run while retiring no one for the 1999 Mexico City Tigers. Moving to the US as part of the 2000 AZL Mexico team, he posted a 4-2, 3.33 record with 78 strikeouts in 54 innings. He led the Arizona League in K, 10 ahead of runner-up Mitch Walk and was 8th in ERA (between Alex Diaz and Andrew Earley). He was named the league's All-Star lefty reliever, complimenting RHRP Chad Wiles. [2] It was an odd selection as he had made eight starts and only one relief appearance. He split 2001 between the Mexico City Tigers (0 R in 1 IP) and Pericos de Puebla (1-0, 3.16 in 19 G).
In 2002, he went 7-4 with two saves and a 4.47 ERA for the Tigres, then was 4-2 with a 3.70 ERA and 69 K in 56 IP in 2003. He won a Bronze Medal with Mexico in the 2003 Pan American Games. [3] He then signed with the San Diego Padres organization. In 2004, he pitched for the Mobile BayBears (0-2, 9.00 in 6 G) and Portland Beavers (1-0, 1.17 in 6 G). He split 2005 between the Lake Elsinore Storm (1-0, 10.95 in 8 G) and Tigres de la Angelopolis (4-4, Sv, 5.55 in 25 G). The Colorado Rockies' Tulsa Drillers took him in the AA portion of the 2005 Rule V Draft. [4]
He was 3-1 with a 3.67 ERA for Angelopolis in 2006. Back in the US again, he was 1-0 with a 5.19 ERA for the 2007 Modesto Nuts. In 2008, he had a 3-2, 4.86 record for the Tigres de Quintana Roo as the Tigres had now moved. In 2009, he was 7-1 with a 4.30 ERA for the club. He pitched two shutout innings for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo in the 2010 Caribbean Series. That summer, he fell to 3-6, 5.26 for Quintana Roo then was 1-0 with a 5.73 ERA in 2011. In 2012, he had a 3-1, 6.65 record for the Rieleros de Aguascalientes. He pitched in 2013 for the Petroleros de Minatitlan (0-1, 11.42 in 3 G) and Olmecas de Tabasco (0-1, 21.00 in 7 G) and he gave up 8 runs in 1 1/3 IP for Tabasco in 2014, managing a 1-1 record. That ended his career.
Huerta later was a parks manager in Mexico. [5]
