Biographical Information[edit]
After being drafted in the 43rd round of the 1986 amateur draft by Toronto Blue Jays, pitcher Doug Linton made his way to the Alaska Baseball League, a Summer Collegiate Baseball league, to pitch for the Alaska Goldpanners; he planned to return to UC Irvine the following year, but wound up being the Goldpanners' co-MVP (along with Mike Harkey), which resulted in the Blue Jays offering him a far heftier signing bonus than most 43 round picks, and he decided to sign; the scout was Steve Minor. He was one of only six players drafted in that 43rd round, only one of two to sign (the other was infielder Franklin Martz, whom the Baltimore Orioles selected), and the only one ever to play in the Major Leagues.
After a nomadic professional career which ended after 2005 and spanned 18 seasons across four countries, he win into coaching. His son, pitcher Carter Linton, was signed by the Atlanta Braves as an undrafted free agent and pitched five games with the class A Augusta GreenJackets in 2021 prior to a three-year stint in the Pioneer League.
