Biographical Information[edit]
Corner infielder Deyvison de los Santos was signed as an international amateur free agent by the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 2, 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down the minors in 2020, he did not make his pro debut until 2021, when he hit .329 in 25 games for the ACL Diamondbacks and .276 in 37 games for the Visalia Rawhide of the California League. His combined slash line in 62 games was .295/.370/.489, with 8 homers and 37 RBIs.
Deyvison followed his fine initial season with another good year in 2022, when he was with three different teams. He started off at Visalia, where he hit .329 in 79 games, then was promoted to the Hillsboro Hops of the Northwest League and finished up with 10 games for the Amarillo Sod Poodles of the AA Texas League, reaching that level before turning 20. In 126 total games, he hit .306/.348/.499 with 72 runs, 29 doubles, 22 homers, and 106 RBIs. He was named a low Class-A All-Star and a Diamondbacks organizational All-Star. In 2023, he spent a full season at Amarillo and hit .254/.297/.431 with another 20 homers and 61 RBIs. Those were very good numbers for a player who was much younger that the league average. Still, the D-Backs did not add him to their 40-man roster and the Cleveland Guardians took him in the 2023 Rule V Draft. He failed to make the team in spring training in 2024 however, and on March 23rd was returned to Arizona.
After returning to the D-Backs, he exploded with a tremendous season in 2024, as he hit a total of 40 homers and drove in 120 runs in 137 games between three teams. He started the year with Amarillo, but dominated the Texas League, hitting .372 in 38 games and was the league's Player of the Month in April to earn a promotion to the AAA Reno Aces on May 21st. He continued to hit there, being named to the 2024 Futures Game, then on July 25th was traded to the Miami Marlins alongside fellow prospect Andrew Pintar in return for P A.J. Puk. He finished the year in the International League with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. His batting line was .294/.343/.571. He won the Joe Bauman Home Run Award for leading all of the minor leagues in homers, and also had more total bases than anyone with 307. In 2025, he played 107 games for Jacksonville, in addition to four games on a rehabilitation assignment with two lower-level teams. In Jacksonville, he hit .241 with 12 homers and 54 RBIs, a far cry from the previous season.
He started the 2026 season in Jacksonville but only played one game in the International League before he was called up to Miami on March 28 to replace Christopher Morel, who was placed on the injured list with an oblique strain. He made his debut the next day as the Marlins' starting first baseman against the Colorado Rockies and went 1 for 2 before giving way to pinch-hitter Liam Hicks in the 7th inning. His first major league hit was a double off José Quintana.
