Biographical Information[edit]
Cla Meredith was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 6th round of the 2004 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Jeff Zona and made his pro debut that summer.
He made it to the majors very quickly, pitching three times for Boston during the 2005 season, although he gave up 7 runs in 2 1/3 innings. He was traded to the San Diego Padres along with C Josh Bard in return for C Doug Mirabelli after that season and had his best years in san Diego from 2006 to 2009. During his rookie season, he set a franchise record by going 33 2/3 consecutive innings without allowing a run between July 17th, when he failed to retire a batter in an appearance against the Philadelphia Phillies and September 17th, when he gave a run to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In between, he had made 27 scoreless outings. The record stood until 2026, when it was eclipsed by Mason Miller in a streak that lasted over two seasons. He ended that season at 5-1, 1.07 in 45 games. He made the only two postseason appearances of his career that year, giving up two unearned runs in 3 2/3 innings against the St. Louis Cardinals in the Division Series.
He was traded to the Baltimore Orioles in return for Oscar Salazar in the middle of the 2009 season, and pitched a season and a half for the Birds. He picked up the only save of his career in his final season, on April 25, 2010 when he recorded the final two outs in the 10th inning in a 7-6 win over his former team, the Red Sox. After going 0-2, 5.40 in 21 games that season, he was let go by the Orioles and signed with the Washington Nationals the following spring, but failed to make the team and retired.
