He played for three teams his first season: the GCL Tigers (6 G, .364); the Connecticut Tigers (14 G, .245); and the West Michigan Whitecaps (51 G, .286). Combined, his batting line was .285/.372/.508 in 71 games, with 13 doubles, 7 triples and 10 homers, to go along with 41 runs and 44 RBIs. He then started the 2016 season with the Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Florida State League. He confirmed his status as a top prospect by being picked to play for the United States team at the 2016 Futures Game. He was leading the circuit with 20 homers at the time of his selection and finished the season with 30 homers and 87 RBIs between Lakeland and the AA Erie Sea Wolves. He hit .255/.386/.517 in 28 games between the two teams that season. In 2017, he spent the entire season with Erie in the Eastern League, playing 136 games and hitting .256 with 29 doubles, 26 homers and 86 RBIs. He moved up to the Toledo Mud Hens in 2018, where he hit .264 in 122 games, with 23 homers and 77 RBIs.
He made his major league debut with the Tigers on June 9, 2018, going 0 for 1 as a pinch-hitter against the St. Louis Cardinals. In 17 games with Detroit, he hit .276 with 2 homers and 10 RBIs. In 2019, he was the team's starting left fielder on opening day, March 28th against the Toronto Blue Jays and was the hero of his team's 2-0 win when he hit a two-run homer off Daniel Hudson in the top of the 10th inning.
