Biographical Information[edit]
Corey Ragsdale was one of three pitching prospects with the first name "Carson" to be in spring training with the San Francisco Giants in 2025, along with Carson Seymour and Carson Whisenhurst. All three would end up making their major league debut that year, but in his case it was with the Baltimore Orioles.
Ragsdale had been a 4th-round selection by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2020 amateur draft, out of the University of South Florida, but before the start of the 2021 season, he was traded to San Francisco for major league reliever Sam Coonrod. because the minor leagues were shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, he had never actually taken part in a game in the Phillies' system. He then made his way up the Giants' chain, reaching AAA in 2024 when he combined to go 5-7, 4.18 in 27 games between the AA Richmond Flying Squirrels and AAA Sacramento River Cats. He began 2025 in Sacramento and was 5-5, 5.37 in 18 games when he was designated for assignment on July 28th. On August 3rd, the Orioles claimed him off waivers and assigned him to their own AAA affiliate, the Norfolk Tides. He pitched a lot better there, going 2-2, 3.47 in 7 games to earn a call-up on September 14th, when he made his debut in relief against the Toronto Blue Jays. To say things did not go well would be an understatement as he gave up 8 runs on 9 hits in 3 innings of relief in an 11-2 beatdown. He took one for the team - IF Luis Vázquez then pitched the 9th inning to mop up the loss - but all it got him was to be DFA'ed again.
The day after Christmas in 2025, Ragsdale signed with the Hanshin Tigers of the NPB.
