Biographical Information[edit]
Brendan Beck pitched for the Great Britain national team before making his major league debut in 2026. He is the brother of Tristan Beck. [1]
Beck was 8-0 with a save and a 2.43 ERA as a college freshman then fell to 5-4, 3.63 in a sophomore slump. He was 0-3 with a 2.82 ERA in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. In '21, he had a 9-3, 3.15 record with 143 K and 26 BB in 108 2/3 IP. He led the Pac-12 Conference in WHIP (.98). [2] He tied Robby Ahlstrom and Sean Mullen for the win lead and led in strikeouts, 34 ahead of Kevin Abel. He won Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year [3] and was an American Baseball Coaches Association All-American alongside Jack Leiter, Kumar Rocker, Doug Nikhazy, Matt Mikulski and Gavin Williams. [4] He was 4th in NCAA Division I in K. [5]
The New York Yankees took him in the second round of the 2021 amateur draft, after taking Trey Sweeney in the first round. The 55th pick, he signed for a $1,050,000 bonus. He then had Tommy John surgery and missed 2022. [6] Returning in 2023, he did well in limited action for the FCL Yankees (striking out 5 of 9 batters, with no hits or walks) and the Hudson Valley Renegades (0-1, 1.74 in 9 G). Elbow issues cost him the entire 2024 season. [7]
Finally healthy in 2025, four years after being drafted, he pitched well for the Somerset Patriots (5-2, 1.82 in 11 G) and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (8-3, 4.44). He led Yankees farmhands in wins, one ahead of Allan Winans, and was 5th in strikeouts (123, between Erick Leal and Sean Boyle). He was on the British team in the 2025 European Championship but did not get into a game even though he was one of only three pitchers they had with AAA experience (the others were Nick Wells and Ryan Long). [8] he also pitched for Great Britain at the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
He started the 2026 season in AAA with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 7 starts, he went 2-2, 5.11 before being called up to New York on May 7th. He made his debut against the Texas Rangers that same day, taking over for Paul Blackburn in the 2nd inning after Blackburn had served as the opener in a bullpen game. He gave up 2 runs in 3 innings, including a solo homer by Ezequiel Duran, and was not involved in the decision in a 9-2 Yankees win.
