Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Robby Ahlstrom was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 7th round of the 2021 amateur draft from the University of Oregon. he never actually got to pitch in the Yankees' system, however, as after signing with the Bronx Bombers, he spent the rest of 2021 at the team's minor league training complex in Florida, then on April 2, 2022, he was traded to the Texas Rangers along with P Albert Abreu in return for C Jose Trevino.
In the short term, the deal was a good one for the Yankees as Trevino had a career year in 2022, while Ahlstrom was a disappointing 2-10, 5.04 in 22 games between the Down East Wood Ducks and Hickory Crawdads in Low-A and High-A. He became a full-time reliever in 2023 and went 3-1, 3.86 with 3 saves in 40 games between Hickory and the AA Frisco Rough Riders. In 2024, he reached AAA for the first time, splitting the season between Frisco and the AAA Round Rock Express, finishing at 6-1, 2.53 with 4 saves in 45 games. He had another good year with the same two teams in 2025, finishing at 2-4, 3.28 in 53 games, with a career-high 8 saves. The Rangers did not give him a look at the major league level however.
In 2026, Robby started the season at Round Rock and went 1-2, 2.76 in his first 21 games. On June 1st, he and Luis Curvelo were called up to the majors when Gavin Collyer was sent down and veteran Chris Martin was placed on the injured list. He made his debut on June 3rd with 1 1/3 inning of scoreless relief against the St. Louis Cardinals, picking up a pair of strikeouts.
