Biographical Information

Pitcher Gavin Collyer was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 12th round of the 2019 amateur draft, out of a high school in Georgia. It took him eight seasons to reach the major leagues, doing so near the start of the 2026 season.

After starting off with 6 games for the AZL Rangers in 2019, he had to put his career on hold for a year when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues in 2020. In 2021 and 2022, the Rangers used him as a starting pitcher and he went 6-5, 4.56 in 24 games (22 starts) between Low-A and High-A in 2022, logging 104 2/3 innings and striking out 115 batters. In 2023, he made only 6 starts in 31 appearances as his ERA shot up to 5.33 in 54 innings. From 2024 forward, he was used exclusively as a reliever. He went 3-4, 3.71 with 7 saves in 2024, mainly for the Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League. He then split 2025 between the AA Frisco Rough Riders and the AAA Round Rock Express, going 5-6, 4.40 in 51 games with 8 saves and 86 strikeouts in 61 1/3 innings.

He started 2026 back with Round Rock. After 6 games, he was 1-0 with 1 save and a 2.70 ERA when he got the call to the majors on April 15th. He made his debut that same day, striking out the only batter he faced, Lawrence Butler, to close out the 7th inning in a 6-5 loss to The Athletics.
